The old covenant with Israel was governed by obeying the law of Moses for righteousness which no one could attain “as it is written: None is righteous, no, not one;
The law was a placeholder of sorts until the “Seed” that was to come arrived as the Apostle Paul explains to the Romans.
Romans 8:3
“For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
Now, in the New Covenant, we are no longer under the law for our righteousness because the blood of Jesus Christ has washed our sins away. He put sin to death for us on that cross and died so that we might have eternal life. In one fell swoop, he destroyed the works of Satan who had kept all of mankind in the bondage of sin, separated from God.
The New Covenant is known as the dispensation of God’s Grace, the unmerited gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling in those who believe on the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. It is a belief that causes us to repent from our sins and to be baptized, rising from the water born again and living in spiritual union with the Holy Spirit and putting to death the deeds of the flesh. It is a life that now lives for Christ and faith in God, seeking to obey his commands by living a life pleasing to Him.
Now, salvation had come to us Gentiles too. Brothers and sisters, let us not fail to embrace all of the wondrous gifts that were first appointed for and spoken of in Israel but now open to us all as it is written “He who has ears, let him hear”. Let us re-examine ourselves daily to see if we are truly seeking to be transformed into the image of Christ, that we are living our lives in a way pleasing to God and in fellowship with our fellow Christians, regardless of denomination. Let us love and serve each other, always being mindful of the needs of the poor, giving instantly without an expectation of return, forgiving and forgetting trespasses against us and not returning evil for evil. With these things in mind, we will do well. May God Bless you in this.
Thank you for allowing me to share my faith with you. With God’s Word for us in His Holy Scriptures, please join me in studying and meditating on it to strengthen our faith. Certainly, there is a deep spiritual meaning in all of it for us if we seek to understand it. A hungry Jesus once said “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God”. Let us always seek to satisfy our spiritual appetites in God’s Word. AMEN
